WHAT’S IN A NAME: ITA WINES
Here at itä wines we are all about the foothills of the Blue Mountains, on the eastern side of the Walla Walla Valley, and that is what our name is about, too. “itä” means “east” in Finnish and is a shout-out to where we source our grapes, aka the most important part of our wine, winery, and brand! It is also a part of owner and winemaker, Kelsey’s married last name of Itämeri, which literally translates to “east sea” and is what they call the Baltic Sea in Finnish.
So, why the obsession with the foothills east of town? Kelsey’s family owns property up in them thar hills and the long term plan is to plant estate vineyards on their land and continue to discover the truest expression of this achingly beautiful part of our little valley.
