An homage to stage directions

WHAT’S IN A NAME: PURSUED BY BEAR

In 2005, acclaimed actor and Yakima native Kyle MacLachlan returned to his home state of Washington to make wine. He named it Pursued by Bear as an homage to one of the most famous stage directions ever written, exit, pursued by bear from Act III, scene iii of Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale. It’s a funny and unexpected phrase that’s not only a nod to his theatrical roots but also plays to Kyle’s sense of humor.

Kyle has made wine in Walla Walla since his debut vintage, working alongside Dunham Cellar’s Eric Dunham and, since 2008, with Dan Wampfler, Abeja winemaker since 2016. Taste the wines at PBB’s downtown Walla Walla location, and don’t be surprised if Kyle pours the wine for you himself. He is a regular visitor to the Walla Walla Valley, returning often to inspect the vineyards, blend wines, and host tastings.

Let’s have some fun with this! Below is picture used for a promo we did around Shakespeare’s birthday during COVID — one of the upsides to that terrible time — the world slowed just enough to allow creativity to flow a bit more freely!
