In 2014, we left our careers as an attorney and fashion designer in California for a new life in the Pacific Northwest. After Matt returned to school to study enology and spent time working with several Washington wineries, we stumbled upon the auction of a small vineyard on the Southside of the Walla Walla Valley. We wanted to create a winery that focused on fresh whites, sparkling wines and restrained and lower alcohol reds.
Both of our vineyards are farmed organically. Our Old Milton vineyard, where the tasting room and our vacation rental are located has four varieties planted. The Nebbiolo and Aglianico are original to the property and were planted in 2006. In 2018 we planted Carignan and Grenache. In 2019 we planted 20 of our 80 acres in Sevein, on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley at higher elevation. At this site we call this vineyards Grosgrain Vineyard and have the following planted: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cinsault, Albariño, Fiano, Vermentino, Xa.Rello, Macabeo.
In 2018 the original house on the property was remodeled to a 4-bed, 4-bath vacation rental. Guests can enjoy their stay lounging on two patios surrounded by the vineyards. To see a recent feature on visiting Grosgrain, which called us “an unmissable pit stop on the western track toward home”, read Eater here.
