Walla Walla Valley Looks To Defend its Title as America’s Best Wine Region in the 2021 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards
Walla Walla currently sitting in second place; public encouraged to vote daily between now and Aug. 2
(WALLA WALLA, Wash.) — The Walla Walla Valley is once again in the running for another prestigious national award, this time seeking a repeat designation as “Best Wine Region” in the annual USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. With just under three weeks to go in the competition, the Walla Walla Valley is currently in second place, just behind Texas Hill Country and just ahead of California’s Temecula Valley. Visit Walla Walla and Walla Walla Valley Wine are asking the public to cast their daily vote in an effort to secure the top spot for the second year in a row.
“We are thrilled to see the Walla Walla Valley as a ‘Best Wine Region’ nominee for the fourth consecutive year,” said Robert Hansen, executive director of Visit Walla Walla and Walla Walla Valley Wine. “The Walla Walla Valley is not just about the wine, it’s about the people who work hard each day because they take pride in what they do and where they’re from. A panel of five wine industry experts selected 20 finalists for “Best Wine Region” before handing the vote over to the public. The results are now up to community members, as they can vote daily until the competition ends Monday, Aug. 2 at noon.
Competing with more than 250 grape-growing wine regions in North America, the Walla Walla Valley is at the top of the list yet again. Just last year, the Walla Walla Valley won first place for “Best Wine Region,” as well as fifth place in 2018 and 2019.
In addition to the Walla Walla Valley’s nomination for “Best Wine Region,” Long Shadows Vintners is once again in the running for “Best Tasting Room” after receiving the same nomination in 2020.
