Dr. Kevin Pogue, chairman of the Geology Department at Whitman College, is co-author of a geologic field trip guide to the Walla Walla Valley and is presently conducting research on the effects of soil and landscape on viticulture in the Walla Walla viticultural area. Walking shoes recommended.

Renowned wine critic Paul Gregutt of the Wine Enthusiast leads a discussion focusing on the vintage wines of the Walla Walla Valley, how they are aging, and why their ability to age well is important. Gregutt will be joined by a panel of local winemakers, including: Martin Clubb of L’Ecole Nº 41, Chris Figgins of Leonetti Cellar, Casey McClellan of Seven Hills Winery, and Rick Small of Woodward Canyon Winery. Discussion includes a tasting comparison of vintage and current wines from each of the winemaker’s respective wineries.

Located in Reid Center’s Ballroom on Whitman College’s campus, this intimate evening will focus on vintage wine selections from the 2001 vintage or older. Many of the Valley's winemakers mingle with attendees and pour rare wines from their private libraries. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. Tickets are limited. A special “flash live auction” with exclusive vintage wine lots will be highlighted.

An essay authored by Dr. Pogue on the influence of the great Missoula floods on Washington viticulture appears in the recently published book: "Washington: the State of Wine."

The Pavilion Tasting: Over 50 Walla Walla wineries come together to showcase new and current releases in our outdoor tasting on the campus of Whitman College. Cooking demonstrations by regional guest chefs will focus on pairing food flavors with the numerous varietals being poured that afternoon. Check out our silent auction with a special focus on large format bottles and current and vintage wines.
